Suez Canal Authority Announces 15% Rebate for Large Containerships!
Following recent constructive discussions with Egyptian port agents and shipping lines we have attended last week, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) is pleased to announce a significant reduction in transit fees for large containerships. This initiative aims to further enhance the attractiveness of the Suez Canal for major carriers.
Here's what you need to know:
- 15% Rebate: Laden or ballast containerships with a Suez Canal Net Tonnage of 130,000 tons or more will receive a 15% rebate on transit dues.
- Northbound & Southbound: This rebate applies to containerships transiting the Suez Canal in both north and south directions.
- Calculated on Normal Dues: The rebate is calculated based on the standard transit dues and any surcharges for container tiers.
- Basic Net Tonnage: The Suez Canal Net Tonnage considered is the basic tonnage, excluding any temporary additions during transit.
- Automatic Application: This discount will be applied directly during transit, with no need for special requests or documentation.
- Effective Date & Duration: This circular is effective for transits starting May 15, 2025, and will remain in effect for a period of 90 days.
This decision underscores the SCA's commitment to supporting the shipping industry and ensuring the Suez Canal remains a vital artery for global trade.
